Say Hello to the St George's Team
Meet our Vicar
Our Vicar, Jennifer Wickham, was ordained in Newcastle Diocese and ministered in the Anglican Church of Canada before coming to St George’s in 2018.
Jennifer enthusiastically preaches, teaches, and helps people discover that the grace of God changes our lives and the world around us.
She loves the Bible; secretly believes that bass guitar players are the coolest musicians; and not so secretly loves hot, sunny days, dark chocolate, and the blues.

Our Churchwardens
Ann and John are churchwardens at St George’s Church and are responsible for maintaining our historic building, parish administration and making sure everything works as it should! If you have any questions on the church building, please get in touch with either Ann or John.

Discipleship
At St George’s, we take following Jesus seriously. We help each other to be like Jesus and do the things that Jesus does by reading the Bible together, listening to God’s grace, and living it out. We run 8-week DNA courses to learn the basics of living a balanced life, up to God, in the Body of Christ, and out to the world.
Please get in touch if you are interested.

St George's Church History
St George’s was established as part of a church planting scheme developed for new neighbourhoods in Coventry after the First World War. The church was established from the parishes of St Nicholas, St Thomas, St John, and All Saints (Allesley.) St George’s began in March 1929.

We began in a wooden building designed with both a church and a parish hall. Lots of people remember dancing, plays, and socials in that hall. The permanent, brick building was designed by Nugent Cachemaille-Day. The church was consecrated on 1st June 1939. Within months of the church’s opening, the nation was at war.
The night of 14th November 1940 Coventry was bombed for 11 hours. Coundon, like so much of the city, was hit. There was a hole in the roof but the church was still able to shelter about 100 people, 20 dogs and several cats. The Vicar, Rev George Bennett, waited outside the church wondering if the anticipated couple would arrive for their wedding. While waiting beautiful cars drove out and out stepped King George VI. What a surprise!

The church has been a part of the neighbourhood, growing and changing with it. The church’s current vision is to help people thrive in the love of God. It is our hope to continue to welcome people into a place in which they can see the image of God within themselves and help others grow and heal in God’s love too.
